More and more people across the country are enrolling themselves in active shooter training programs in an effort to be better prepared against incidents involving gun violence.

Florida

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is planning to conduct an active shooter training session on Tuesday, November 13 at the South Regional Library at 8065 Lely Cultural Parkway between 6 and 8 pm. The session will be open to all in Southwest Florida.

Experts in the field of Active Shooter & Situational Awareness Training will conduct the sessions. Besides a walkthrough on run, hide, fight tactics, the participants will also be given training in first aid practices.

Earlier this year, in the month of June, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office conducted an active shooter training program at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers.

Louisville

Louisville Metro Police conducted an extensive active shooter training session on Thursday, November 8. More than 160 leaders from the religious fraternity were present.

The active shooter training session was prompted by two recent incidents that occurred in close succession. The first took place at Kroger, where an armed delinquent forced his way into the First Baptist Jeffersontown and then took the lives to two people present. The second incident occurred a few days later at the Pittsburgh Synagogue in which 11 people lost their lives.

The overwhelming concern regarding public safety is apparent from the large number of senior members of the clergy who were participating in the active shooter training session. The initiative shows that Louisville is determined about preventing untowardly incidents in holy places of prayer.

Greensboro

Following the shootout incident at the Borderline Bar & Grill, the UNCG police department has been urging youngsters to get trained in prevention and mitigation techniques.

Incidents at institutions such as schools and colleges as well as establishments frequented by youngsters have raised serious concerns across the state of California.

Given the high frequency of shootouts, many students are already thinking along the lines of what to and what not to do if such an incident were to occur while going to class or during a night out. Some even keep tabs on exit and escape routes they have at their disposal at a given location such as a restaurant or a public space where a music event is being organized. This kind of mindset has left many feeling unenthusiastic about social activity.

UNCG is keen on seeing more students register for the on campus active shooter training sessions they are planning. The objective of these sessions is to raise awareness amongst the youngsters. Participants will also have the opportunity to become more familiar with the decibel levels of gunshots.

The active shooter training sessions will follow a generic model that can be adapted to any situation involving an armed delinquent. This includes strategies for exit, escape, shelter, taking advantage of utilities and resources on premises, and many more.

Crawford County

Crawford Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with Robinson Police, gave its staff extensive active shooter training on November 8 while simultaneously carrying out the day’s tasks and operations.

While some of the staff members have already gathered a basic understanding of how to survive active shooter incidents through courses online, the on location session at the hospital with simulated learning was a first for most.

Fulton

Grace Community Church was recently the venue of an active shooter training workshop conducted by the local police department. The session was conducted free of cost and was aimed at empowering the trainees in attendance to put a survival plan in place and then execute it without losing time.
