Cyclone Alcide is slated to kick start the year’s Indian Ocean cyclone season. The storm is currently taking a south west course and is making its way towards the north eastern part of the island.
Although experts are anticipating Category 2 level intensity, Cyclone Alcide is expected fizzle out by Friday or Saturday, thanks to wind shear and upwelling. Rains can be expected during these days, depending on the storm’s proximity to land. However, this does not rule high tides along the eastern coasts of Madagascar and the northern coasts of Reunion and Mauritius.
Cyclone Alcide will swerve northwest after this coming weekend by when it should have lost most of its vigor. The storm is expected to stay for the most part to the north of Madagascar.
The storm’s projected trajectory suggests that most of the impact will be spent out in the open seas.
