Many zones in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city, were left water logged in the immediate aftermath of intense torrential downpour that started late Sunday afternoon.

The heavy rainwater caused damage in many important roads, highways and thoroughfares in the city including:

  • Jalan Wirawati
  • Jalan Pudu Ulu
  • Jalan Pudu Perdana
  • Jalan Cheras
  • Jalan Kepong

Other flood hit zones in Kuala Lumpur include areas in and around the Wadda Gurdwara (Kampung Pandan) and Hiliran Ampang People’s Housing Project. Flood waters percolated into the main prayer hall at the Wadda Gurdwara, a sacred place of spiritual significance for believers.

Traffic across these affected roads had to be diverted through detours. Emergency personnel and firefighter teams had been deployed in various affected areas to carry out recovery and restoration tasks.

Some underground passageways in Kuala Lumpur, including the Jalan Tun Razak, were severely waterlogged. Fire and Rescue squads arrived at the scene after receiving calls for help at around 6 pm. Many were found waiting anxiously for help on top of car roofs that had been almost completely submerged. Escorting the victims to safety took the better part of ten tedious minutes. Similar scenes were reported in the underground passageway connecting Jalan Tun Razak and KLCC.

Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries to human life have been reported and normalcy was restored in the city late in the evening.
