While restoration measures in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence and Michael are still underway, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is taking stock of existing wireless network systems across the country in order to identify gaps and areas of improvement. The wireless network fraternity has initiated a thorough examination of the Wireless Resiliency Cooperative Framework.

The end objective of the initiative is to

  • Ensure service continuity during a crisis
  • Increase awareness amongst citizens
  • Reducing the time required to restore systems

Leading service vendors have been requested to provide documentation that explicitly details their adherence to recommended guidelines to keep their networks invulnerable to catastrophic situations.

The extent of impact recent calamities have had across the country has raised serious concerns that have necessitated the FCC’s direct involvement to take stock of the situation.

The FCC is keen on going beyond conventional metrics such as network performance and recovery while examining how existing wireless networks function before, during and after a crisis.
