The US President, Donald Trump, intends to stop relief funds to Puerto Rico. The financial aid is directed at assisting millions of US citizens who are still recovering from the impact and widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Maria. The reason being the alleged use of the relief funds by the Puerto Rican government to pay off state liabilities instead of giving disaster affected individuals the necessary financial support to restore normalcy.
Hurricane Maria has left the country in ruins with power supply restored only recently and thousands of locals still homeless as their houses were completely wiped out.
The Trump government has been reluctant all along to release relief funds to the Puerto Rican government despite an official death toll in Puerto Rico of nearly three thousand.
